Angiography
Angiography is a medical imaging technique used to visualize blood vessels in the body, particularly in the heart and the brain. It is an invasive procedure that is typically performed by a radiologist or a cardiologist.

The procedure is done by injecting a contrast dye into the bloodstream through a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) that is inserted into an artery, usually in the groin or arm. The dye makes the blood vessels visible on X-ray images, allowing the radiologist or cardiologist to see the inside of the blood vessels and detect any blockages or abnormalities.

There are two main types of angiography:

  • Coronary Angiography: This procedure is used to visualize the blood vessels in the heart. It helps to detect blockages in the coronary arteries and is used to diagnose and evaluate the severity of coronary artery disease.

  • Cerebral Angiography: This procedure is used to visualize the blood vessels in the brain. It helps to detect blockages or abnormalities in the blood vessels that supply the brain, and it is used to diagnose and evaluate conditions such as brain aneurysms and stroke.

Angiography is a safe and effective diagnostic tool, but it carries a small risk of complications such as bleeding, infection, and allergic reactions to the contrast dye. It is typically done on an outpatient basis and recovery is generally fast.
